Tips and Tricks for Life

Tips and Tricks for Life

Today, I just want to share tips and tricks that I have learned throughout my life that may help you!   Most of these are really random things and I'm sure that as soon as I post this, I will think of a million more!

If you've got more, feel free to leave me a comment.

  • Mix Dawn Dishwashing liquid and baking soda together to put on clothing stains.  It makes a paste.  Apply the paste to the stain and let it set for at least 15-20 minutes.   Wash as normal.  Make sure you hang the item to dry and do not use the dryer!   You want to make sure the stain is completely gone before drying it!    This can be repeated multiple times if needed.
  • Leave your washer door open to prevent mold and mildew.
  • Use peppermint oil to get ticks off of you or your family.   Simply apply a few drops to the area the tick is in and it will slowly back out!
  • Add a few drops of peppermint oil to your shampoo or conditioner to keep lice away for your head (or your child's).
  • Severe sunburn?  No problem!   Grab some liquid antacid and rub on the sunburn.  Let it sit for 15-30 minutes and then rinse off with cool water or a damp rag.   The burn will still be red but will not hurt anymore!
  • Only use a wooden spoon when cooking beans.  A metal spoon will alter the taste!
  • To find small items that you've dropped/lost, cover your vacuum cleaner hose attachment with pantyhose and start vacumming!   It will stick to the end of the hose on the pantyhose!
  • Vinegar, baking soda and hot water can unclog a stopped up sink!   Simply run hot water in your sink, add approximately one cup of baking soda and then pour one cup of vinegar into the sink.  Wait about 30 seconds and then run hot water again.
  • Run hot water over a stuck lid.   Dry and then retry removing it!
  • Put newspaper in the bottom of your trash can to absorb any food juices that may leak when you toss stuff!
  • Use a pants hangar to hang your cookbook or printed recipe from your cabinet so that it's easily visible, but not in the way on the counter.
  • Use an over the door shoe bin (the plastic ones) to store cleaning supplies.
  • To clean your blender after making a smoothie, just add water and dishwashing liquid.  Replace the lid and turn it on!  Empty and rinse!
  • Finally, if you use a grocery pickup service, most allow you to add items to your list anytime.  I keep the app on my phone and when I realize we are almost out of something, I go ahead and add it to my pickup order.
