Mental Health has been on my agenda to write about for a while now, but I've put it off because well, it's a tough subject.
I'm going to start by saying that if you aren't mentally healthy then it's likely you are also lacking in physical health too. I'm sure some of you are about to give me the stank eye, but it's the truth. I don't care how many times a week you work out and how healthy you eat- if you are mentally in a bad place then your physical health will suffer at some point. It might not be today or tomorrow, but it's coming, so watch out.
So, why is our mental health so important and so difficult? Well, we live in a world where everything is so fast paced, stressful, and everyone demands things of us that sometimes seem impossible. Let's be honest here- do you know anyone who hasn't suffered from mental health issues at some point? (Stop shooting daggers at me- we all have issues sometimes!)
This world we live in is so different than it was twenty years ago. There are more demands placed on all of us- whether it's work, school, extracurricular activities, or even household things. The demands of life in general can sometimes be overwhelming. We thought technology was great, but truthfully, it can be detrimental to our emotional well being.
I realize I'm all over the place with this, but here's a serious question for you:
When is the last time you actually took time to work on your mental health?
Just curious if any of you were able to answer that with "this week" or "this month"?
Mental health is always that thing we put on the backburner because let's get real- it's not important, right? WRONG! So, let's start talking about it and being HONEST about how we are mentally doing with life. The best thing you can do for yourself is to make sure you are in a good place mentally. If you aren't, then we have some work to do.
I'm going to leave you to ponder on all of this. Next week, we will discuss how to care for our mental health and what we need to change in our lives!
