I touched on this a few weeks back when I started the blog about dating your spouse. So, for the next couple weeks, you get to hear me ramble and transition us from talking all about our spouses and dating.... to figuring out how to make it all work.
Organization is key. Well, I think everyone knows that, but it’s not super easy to do. I recently started spending the first 15 min of my morning drinking coffee and making my to do lists for the day. This is something a friend and fellow blogger suggests and let me tell you, it works!
As women, we have all of these thoughts constantly weighing us down. Our minds go 100 miles per minute, and it makes it difficult to relax when we do have time.
I don’t know about y’all, but with all of the constant “to do lists” in my brain, it’s hard to concentrate on the task at hand sometimes.
Dump it. Well, I’m sure that must sound nuts. But what my friend/fellow blogger, Lyndi, has taught me, is that I need to dump it all out on paper every morning. I use my iPad, but a notebook is just as good- and I literally write out every single thing I want/need to accomplish for the day down.
I write down my crazy, random thoughts too. I get a lot of ideas late at night or early in the morning, so I am able to dump them all out on paper/iPad first thing in the morning and that helps me in so many ways.
Once I’m finished writing everything down, I pick 3-5 of the most important tasks for the day and I write those in my planner. This helps me not be overwhelmed.
So, how does this truly help you be more organized?
First, I don’t waste hours later in the day trying to remember what my bright ideas were or what I needed to do. It’s all written down for me to look at when I need a reminder. Secondly, when I choose the 3-5 most important things to do- I schedule time to do those things during the day. It might be running to the post office on lunch or tossing a load of laundry in the washer while I get ready for work. It doesn’t matter when I fit it in, I try to consistently finish those 3-5 most important tasks each day.
I’ve always been a list person. I love the feeling of marking something off my list; it makes me feel accomplished. But, this has been a game changer for me. Instead of a list that has twenty items on it that overwhelms me, I have a small list that I know I can accomplish in a days time. Talk about a great feeling!
Tune in next week for the next part of getting organized and figuring out how to handle everyday life.
